When Julie Martin moved back to Austin to be closer to family, she wasn’t just looking for a house—she was searching for community. “We met with Bill, one of the new home counselors, and loved him. He gave us a great tour,” Julie says. “I loved the amenities and the different home options. I’m single and wanted a neighborhood with things to do, a place where I could feel at home and stay social.”
A Beautiful Home… But a Big Commute
Julie loved everything about Kissing Tree and visited eight times, even bringing different friends along for input. One friend liked it so much, they put down a contract on a home! But as Julie weighed her options, the long commute to her job in North Austin gave her pause. “It’s a beautiful home, but I started thinking—do I really want to be that far from my people and routines?” she says.

Initially, Julie thought a townhome might suit her, but long-term accessibility was top of mind. “I looked at every single model!” she says. “I wanted something that worked for me now—and in the future.” She found her perfect floor plan in Kieke Park and knew instantly it was the one.“The moment I walked in, I knew this was my forever home.”
Welcome to "Kieke Island"
Julie and her cat Minnie moved into their new home in July 2024—and jumped into the Easton Park lifestyle right away. “I say we’re on Kieke Island,” she laughs. “It’s a little oasis.” Julie handed out flyers to introduce herself to neighbors and joined the SPARK committee, which organizes community engagement and fun. She also discovered Easton Made, the community’s weekly newsletter that highlights local makers and small businesses. “I’ve met so many nice people here! There’s even a lady who makes amazing Mexican food, and I buy from her. It really feels like a village—everyone brings something special.”
Living the South Austin Life
While Julie had always lived north of the city, she’s now enjoying everything that South Austin has to offer. “South Austin just has its own vibe—more eclectic, more creative,” she says. “I can go to Saxon Pub or check out something downtown if friends invite me. Plus, the traffic is way better down here!” She’s also excited to see how the area around Easton Park is growing. “It’s fun to be part of something that’s just getting started. This is a great community, and I feel lucky to be here.”
