8 Best Denver Suburbs

If you’re considering moving to or within the Denver metro area, here are some of the best suburbs to call home.
Arvada
Arvada is known for its mix of modern suburban amenities and small-town feel. While residents come together for smaller festivals and farmers’ markets most weekends, the city also offers a number of recreational and arts experiences. From the water park and ice rinks at the Apex Center to the theatre and art galleries at the Arvada Center to the hip restaurants and shops of Olde Town, there’s something to do for all ages.
Located about 9 miles northwest of Denver, Arvada is also attractive to outdoor enthusiasts. There are 90 parks within city limits with miles of hiking and biking trails. Plus, the city sits right off the I-70 corridor, offering easy access to a number of mountain and ski towns.
Brighton
To the northeast of Denver, along the banks of the South Platte River, lies the growing city of Brighton. Originally founded as a farming community and stagecoach depot, Brighton has maintained its agricultural roots while embracing a growing modern arts and music scene. That means you can pick your own vegetables or fruits at a local farm in the morning, then head over to the Armory Performing Arts Center for a concert or art show in the evening!
The city also has a hip, active downtown area. Besides enjoying a number of galleries, shops, restaurants, and breweries, you can head over to the Downtown Historic District to learn more about the city’s early days through its preserved buildings and museums. But it’s not all history, as Brighton’s economy is expanding, with new businesses and job opportunities increasing in the area. Living in Brighton is perfect for those who are looking for a tight-knit community, vibrant cultural scene, and a growing job market.
Broomfield
If you’re looking for a central location between Denver and Boulder, Broomfield is a top choice for suburban living. Professionals will love the growing job market in the technology and business sectors, while families will appreciate Boulder Valley’s and Adams 12 School Districts' top-rated schools. And with the city’s proximity to major highways, I-25, and the Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport, residents can easily commute or travel to wherever they need to go.
Broomfield also has plenty of recreational opportunities. The Broomfield County Commons Park includes an 80-acre park/sports complex, dog park, and picnic areas. It’s also home to the Paul Derda Recreation Center, which features an indoor aquatic park, indoor track, kid’s zone, and more.
Castle Rock
If one word could sum up this town, it’s picturesque. Castle Rock is known for its family-friendly atmosphere, outdoor recreation activities, and mountain views – including its namesake rock outcropping. In fact, with more than 6,000 acres of open space and 50 miles of trails, this is a great place to live for fans of the great outdoors.
Castle Rock also offers a quiet yet scenic place to live for those who want easy access to both Denver and Colorado Springs. But that doesn’t mean there’s nothing happening in town. The city hosts a number of large annual events, including the Castle Rock Artfest and the Castle Rock WineFest. The Castle Rock Starlighting is also an iconic event that draws residents and visitors together to watch a giant star light up atop the castle-tower-shaped butte.
Firestone
If you want to wake up each day to spectacular views of the Rocky Mountains, Firestone is the perfect place to live. This is a community that caters to those who love the outdoors, with 18 parks, miles of trails, and access to St. Vrain State Park. Whether you enjoy fishing, camping, hiking, or just a leisurely waterside picnic, you can really immerse yourself in nature here.
That’s not to say you’re far from city amenities. Located about midway between Denver and Fort Collins, living in Firestone provides an easy commute to either city. This expands both your employment and entertainment options while also allowing you to return to your peaceful sanctuary near the Rockies.
Greenwood Village
Home to the Denver Technological Center (DTC), Greenwood Village is an attractive suburb for professionals working in finance, technology, and business services. That’s not to say its growth completely erased its country vibe. The city boasts 22 parks, more than 25 miles of trails, and more than 180 acres of open spaces.
There are also plenty of high-end dining, shopping, and entertainment options in the city. This includes the Fiddler’s Green Amphitheatre, which hosts a variety of big-name musical acts, and the Curtis Center for the Arts, which features rotating visual arts exhibits, cultural events, and arts instruction. Besides access to arts and entertainment, families will also appreciate that the local school district, Cherry Creek, is consistently ranked among the best in Colorado.
Parker
Parker is a quaint yet growing suburb known for its small-town charm and strong sense of community. Its lively downtown area features a mixture of local shops, restaurants, breweries, and farmers' markets as well as annual festivals and concerts, creating a welcoming environment for residents of all ages.
If you love getting outdoors, you’ll appreciate Parker's extensive trail system, parks, and recreation centers. You can also access the Cherry Creek Regional Trail, an approximately 40-mile, mostly paved trail that runs south from Denver to Castlewood Canyon State Park. The city also offers easy access to Denver and the DTC, making it a great option for professionals looking for a community-focused suburb with great amenities and a relaxed lifestyle.
Twin Lakes
A quiet suburban lifestyle with the convenience of being just minutes from Denver – that’s Twin Lakes living. This laid-back suburb offers easy access to major highways like I-25, I-76, and US-36, making commuting to Denver, the DTC, or surrounding areas quick and easy. Plus, Twin Lakes maintains a diverse and welcoming community, ideal for young professionals, families, and retirees who want a balance between city amenities and rural tranquility.
While Twin Lakes is close to the city proper, you can still enjoy outdoor recreational opportunities at Twin Lakes Park. This 16-acre recreational area features a number of walking paths and picnic areas as well as a fishing pond and playground. And if you’re up for a longer hike, there are connections to Clear Lake Trail, a paved, kid- and stroller-friendly trail that stretches 8.2 miles out-and-back from the park to Lowell Ponds Wildlife Area.
