Whether you're planning your move to Apache Junction or are just considering it as a new home, here’s just a few reasons why you’ll enjoy living in this gorgeous Arizona city!
Wherever you’re moving from, you’re likely to find a lower cost of living in Apache Junction. That’s because the overall cost of living in Apache Junction (or AJ as the locals call it) is about 8% lower than the national average and about 12% lower than the cost of living in Phoenix.
Just like the rest of the U.S., home prices have climbed the last several years, but Apache Junction still has lower average housing expenses than the national average. In fact, some sites estimate that housing expenses are about 35% lower!
With more than 15,000 employers within a 30-minute commute, there are plenty of jobs in Apache Junction. Experts are even predicting that there will be a 22% increase in the number of jobs in the area by 2030!
While major industries in the area include consumer services, retail, and business services, health care jobs are also prevalent. For example, Banner Health and Dignity Health are among the top 10 private employers near Apache Junction.
If you’re willing to commute a bit further, Phoenix and Scottsdale offer up thousands of more job opportunities in a variety of industries such as aerospace, manufacturing, information technology, and more. In fact, the entire Phoenix metro area (which includes all of Maricopa and Pinal counties) has more than 67,000 businesses with 1.7 million jobs between them.
Why do so many people choose to come to Apache Junction in the winter? Because of its incredibly nice weather!
While winters in Apache Junction don’t get much hotter than 70 degrees or colder than 40 degrees, most of the year is just as pleasant. The average high between March and May is around 82 degrees, and between September and November it’s 86 degrees.
Of course, summers in the desert can be hot, but with the evenings cooling to the 70s, you can sit outside and enjoy the dark, star-filled sky.
One of the main reasons so many film and TV productions were shot in Apache Junction is the incredible, awe-inspiring vistas. From picturesque lakes to wide expanses of desert flora to the breathtaking view of the Superstition Mountains, Apache Junction is the ideal home for nature lovers.
The Superstition Wilderness of the Tonto National Forest is a short drive away and includes both easy and difficult trails. One of those trails takes you up to Broadway Cave, a mountainside nook from which you can take in panoramic views of saguaro forests and the city beyond.
Several lakes and the Salt River are also nearby. At Canyon Lake, you can take a cruise on the Dolly Steamboat, which offers a unique way to enjoy the natural splendor of the area. On Saguaro Lake, you can also take a cruise on the Desert Belle or enjoy swimming, paddle boarding, and more water sports.
If you’re feeling a bit more adventurous, try tubing down the Lower Salt River. This 18-mile real-life lazy river — which has six recreation sites along the route — is fun for the whole family and offers a jaw-dropping sight: Arizona’s wild horses. They roam the riverbanks seeking respite from the heat, so you’re sure to catch a glimpse as you wind down the waterway.
Apache Junction is the ideal city to live in if you want rural suburban living near one of the most dynamic cities in America. It’s just a 40-minute drive from downtown Phoenix, where you can enjoy professional sports, the arts, exotic cuisine, a dynamic nightlife, and much more.

U.S. Highway 60 runs through the city, allowing you to connect to major interstate highways such as the I-10, which runs from California to Florida, and the I-17, which runs from Phoenix to Flagstaff. Additionally, the city is only four hours from the beautiful Mexican seaside town of Puerto Peñasco (also known as Rocky Point), where many Arizonans go to enjoy beach vacations.
If you need to fly, Apache Junction is only 15 minutes away from the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport, which offers flights to U.S.-based locations from the West Coast to the Midwest.
