2019 Interior Design Trends

December 03, 2018
2019 Interior Design Trends at Brookfield Residential.

With the New Year fast approaching, many are abuzz with the latest interior design and décor trends that will dominate 2019. As we reflect on the year past and make resolutions and intentions for the year to come, sprucing up our home décor is often a natural impulse. A few little tweaks to make your home feel fresh and current can bring an invigorating sense of new beginnings and optimism as you ring in 2019.

Here are some of our favourite interior design trends for 2019:

Go Green

Go green

Eco-friendly vibes are a big theme in 2019, and you can expect to see "green" items in many homes and stores. Popular environmentally-friendly and green choices include indoor plants, energy-saving appliances, recycled materials, and handmade pieces using sustainable materials such as wood, rice paper and clay. Decorative touches that give a nod to the earth and environment, such as astronomy and zodiac patterns, galaxy murals, constellations and other celestial motifs, are another great option. These earth-friendly and eco-friendly décor items are a great way to help you feel grounded in your own home, and to get in touch with your roots and the earth.

Embrace Softness and Lightness

Embrace softness and lightness

2019 is all about finding comfort, and letting more softness and lightness into your home. Soft materials such as linens and velvets, cozy beds, comfy cushions, inviting flowers and floral patterns are all finding their way into the chicest homes. For furniture, curved furnishings and soft lines are this year's biggest trend, bringing a '60s vibe to everything from tabletops and rugs to sofas and seating. Light-coloured floors bring an airy and open feeling to the home, with popular choices for 2019 including laminate and hardwood flooring in birch, beach-y white and light oak. From the softest carpets to the most inviting furniture, this trend recommends that you invest in the basics for the ultimate everyday comfort at home.

Incorporate Warm, Balanced Hues

Incorporate warm balanced hues

The colours dominating 2019 interior design trends are balanced neutrals and subtle natural tones. Brookfield Residential's paint supplier, Sherwin-Williams, has selected their Colour of the Year 2019 as Cavern Clay SW 7701, a warm terracotta colour with "ancient, elemental roots." The hue is described as being both casual and refined, and pairs nicely with wood, stone, and the plants from our "go green" trend.

It also perfectly complements other top 2019 colour trends as selected by Sherwin-Williams, including casual, balanced neutrals like a warm grey (Moth Wing SW 9174) or deep brown (Dark Clove SW 9183), as well as fun pops of colour including a dusty blue (Distance SW 6243) and a fresh avocado green (Haven SW 6437).
