Awe-inspiring vistas with lush greenery and crystal-blue waters – on the island of Hawaii, you’ll find some of the world’s most amazing natural landscapes. We’ve rounded up a few of our favorite hikes on the Big Island for you to explore.

Find picturesque Hawaiian beauty on the Spencer Beach Park to Waiulaula Beach trail, where a short hike will reward you with expansive views of the Kohala Coast. Just step out onto the white sandy beaches and enjoy the postcard-worthy surroundings.

Interested in Hawaiian history? Go back in time on the Malama Trail to the Puakō Petroglyph District, where you can see the largest concentration of ancient petroglyphs carved into volcanic dome rocks on the entire island chain of Hawaii. The Waikoloa Petroglyph Preserve is one of the best-preserved places to see these fascinating symbols made by early Hawaiians around 200 to 1,000 years ago – you’ll recognize images of turtles, birds and people.

Black sand, sparkling water and a single palm tree await you at Keawaiki Bay, where you’ll discover the Golden Pools, which are created by golden algae growing in freshwater. For a longer hike, head from Keawaiki Bay to ‘Anaeho‘omalu Bay and make sure to have appropriate footwear since you’ll be traveling over a rocky shoreline. You can also hike from the striking turquoise pools at Kiholo Bay to Keawaiki Bay. Kiholo Bay is one of the best places to view sea turtles, so keep a lookout for these majestic creatures.

For sublime beauty that will take your breath away, explore the northern Kohala Coast along the vibrant green sea cliffs at Honokāne Nui or check out one of the Big Island’s most popular destinations at Waipi’o Valley to see the island’s tallest waterfall and take in the dramatic island vistas.

After you’ve experienced hiking on the Big Island, come tour our new homes and see how you can make island living your own. Check out Holua Kai at Keauhou, an oceanfront community that redefines island luxury living, and KaMilo at Mauna Lani on the glorious Kohala Coast. The final collection of homes is now selling. Visit today and find your dream home to experience the beauty of the islands every day.
