2018 Toronto Year in Review

It's hard to believe that we're just two weeks away from New Year's Eve and the dawn of a new year–2018 has flown by! From community events and openings to exciting new releases, construction progress, charity events, community building and more, we've had a great year. Read on for a recap of some of our favourite moments from 2018 as we look back at the year in review.

Community Living

Community Living

2018 saw several new releases at our communities, including at Pathways in Caledon East and Pinehurst in Paris.

We also launched new two-car garage townhomes at Treetops in Alliston, which were a huge hit – read our blog post about them here!

Some of our communities nearly sold out, with just a few inventory homes remaining for sale at Timberlane in Aurora, Pinehurst in Paris and Treetops in Alliston.

We also launched a new blog series that lets you get to know our various communities on a whole new level. "A Day in Brookfield Residential Communities" explores different areas throughout Southern Ontario where our communities can be found, diving deep into the nature, recreation, arts, culture, and unique points of interest in each location. You can explore some of these areas in A Day in Brookfield Residential North Communities (featuring Alliston and Tottenham), A Day in Brookfield Residential Central Communities (featuring Aurora) and A Day in Brookfield Residential West Communities (featuring Caledon East, Bolton and Paris, ON).

New Innovations

New Innovations

In 2018, we were excited to launch the brand new My Brookfield Home – GTA App, an iPhone- and Android-friendly app for homeowners that lets them follow the progress of their new home in a whole new way. From seeing the latest updates, meetings and tasks to important documents and appointments to following the live progress of their home through the latest construction photos, the My Brookfield Home app offers a unique and unparalleled experience for new home buyers. We're proud to be the only homebuilder that keeps our homeowners so connected to the day-to-day progress of their new home.

Awards & Recognition

Events and Recognition

We took home some great awards in 2018, including the one we were most proud of: the Best Customer Care award at the 38th Annual BILD Awards. Providing an excellent customer experience is one of our core missions and customer care drives everything we do. We strive to build The Best Places to Call Home and to give you and your family a home, community and overall experience that you will cherish.

We also collected some of our homeowners' testimonials into a fun compilation on our blog, titled "Why Do You Love Your Brookfield Home?" We love hearing our homeowners' feedback, and wanted to share some of their inspiring words with you.

Community Events & Charity

Community Events and Charity

As is our yearly tradition, we were involved in various events and community initiatives throughout the year.

Our Annual Charity Golf Classic in June of 2018 was a great success. Held at Deer Creek Golf & Banquet Facility in Ajax, it was a fun day out on the course for a great cause: Nova's Ark in Whitby. This is a great local charity that is committed to building acceptance of people of all ages and abilities by providing opportunities for understanding through a wide range of activities and programs involving unique and gentle animals. They have many impressive programs and we’re proud to support them. We also paid them a visit and helped them to paint their deck (see photo in the collage above!).

Movie in Treetops Park

Our Community Ambassador hosted many fun, free events at our communities. One of these was Movie in Treetops Park, which was held in the Treetops Community Park for our homeowners to enjoy popcorn, cotton candy, activities like face painting and an evening outdoor screening of Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle on the big screen.

Another event was Halloween Movie Night at Pathways, which was held in the Caledon East Community Complex and where homeowners got to enjoy Halloween activities such as face painting, balloon twisting and learning about local recreational fall and winter activities. Guests were encouraged to dress in their favourite Halloween costume, and got to enjoy complimentary popcorn and cotton candy during the movie airing of Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation.

Another fun homeowner event hosted by our Community Ambassador was a Cooking Class at The Arbors Condo. Held in the party room, the event featured a live chef who taught everyone how to make pizza from scratch. We had many other events throughout the year and we’ve got an exciting lineup of community homeowner events scheduled for 2019 too!

We also participated in Open Streets Whitby, the Town of Whitby's Canada Day Festival and other local events near our new home communities.

We continued to sponsor Dockside community events at Whitby Harbour in 2018. These included a series of Lakeside Cinema evenings in the summer, free events complete with large screen movie screenings, food trucks, a beer garden, popcorn and treats, games, live music and photo ops galore. We also hosted Summer Fest, which was a Canada Day weekend celebration with all kinds of family fun; FIFA Fest, so Whitby locals could catch the live France vs. Croatia World Cup match; and Girls' Night Out, an evening for the ladies with goat yoga, flower crown making, local artisans and vendors, a Rosé All Day station and more. You can read a recap of the summer event series and see some photos of the various events here. Other events at Dockside included Plank on the Dock boot camp classes for fitness enthusiasts, and Yoga on the Dock to take advantage of the site’s beautiful setting. Follow Dockside in Whitby on Instagram to catch some of the action, and check out the Story Highlights for video of past events!

We’re looking forward to 2019, when you can expect models coming to our current communities including Woodhaven (Aurora), Pathways (Caledon East), Pinehurst (Paris) and New Seaton (Pickering), as well as new home communities coming soon including Heartland (Baxter), 50 Ann (Bolton), Willow Glen Towns (Tottenham) and Station No. 3 (Whitby).

Thanks for following along and for being part of our journey as we build The Best Places to Call Home. Make sure to LIKE us on Facebook and FOLLOW us on Instagram for the latest news and updates. We’ll see you in 2019!
